About the Project

Educational Empowerment Initiative

Slum to Surgeon is an educational empowerment initiative by Mission Awareness Foundation aimed at identifying, mentoring, and preparing underprivileged students for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

The project ensures that talented students from slums and economically weaker sections receive structured guidance, mentorship, and emotional support to pursue medical education.

The Challenge

Why This Project Matters

NEET is the single gateway to medical education in India, with nearly 17 lakh students competing every year. High coaching costs, syllabus mismatch, lack of mentorship, and financial stress prevent capable students from succeeding. Slum to Surgeon bridges this gap and ensures that poverty does not decide a student's future.

High Coaching Costs

Quality NEET coaching costs ₹2-5 lakhs annually — impossible for economically weaker families

Syllabus Mismatch

Gap between school education and NEET requirements creates additional hurdles

Lack of Mentorship

First-generation learners have no guidance for career planning

Financial Stress

Constant worry about finances affects mental health and performance
